is designed to work with most tripods. The most important requirement is that the tripod provides leg-braces that slide down from the center column and lock into a horizontal position as the tripod legs are spread to provide ridigity and stability. See Figure 1.

The tripod's leg-braces are used to fasten the tripod to the mounting platform.
Some more expensive tripods do not provide leg-braces (See Figure 2.) for two reasons. First, some photographers work in a variety of conditions and prefer to variably adjust the tripod without having to lock/unlock the leg-braces. Second, some tripods are designed for ultra-light weight and eliminate the leg-braces for this reason. However, your tripod must have leg-braces to be used with TRIPSHOT™.

Tripods also some in a variety of sizes when in the collapsed (unfolded) carrying position. You tripod should be unfolded so that the leg-braces are fully engaged. However, the tripod legs need not be extended beyond the closed/carrying position.
Should your tripod "footprint" be smaller than TRIPSHOT™'s footprint (i.e., the three larger holes into which you set the tripod's feet when mounting), you can extend your tripod's legs by a slight length so that the tripod's feet fit into the mounting platform's foot holes. Remember to re-lock the tripod's leg clamps.
Although the combination of different tripod leg-brace designs and footprints can vary across tripod products, TRIPSHOT™ accommodates a very broad spectrum of tripods due to its ability to adapt and securely fasten the tripod to the platform.

In case you haven't yet purchased a tripod, the following features are especially convenient:
- 3-axis Heads: these provide control along the three X, Y, and Z axes so that it's easier to more precisely control your camera. In cases where you may want to shift the shot from out the front windshield to the side window, if you don't have this mechanism, the "horizon" isn't level in the picture (since the tripod and camera are likely tilted at the angle of the carseat). With a simple lever, you can level it up by simply adjusting the head movement (see Figure 3).
- Quick-release Camera Plates: these plates make fast removal of the camcorder from the tripod easy so that you can take your camcorder with you without having to unscrew the 1/4" screw from the tripod head. See Figure 4.
TRIPSHOT™'s unique design ensures maximum flexibility to accommodate a great variety of tripods, regardless of leg brace height or foot-print of your tripod. We hope these tips will enable you to begin shooting your trips soon!
